5 Exciting Outdoor Recreation Ideas in Cumming

Cumming, Georgia is a charming city perched between Atlanta and the North Georgia Mountains.   1. Sawnee Mountain Preserve – Comprised of 963 acres of beautiful Georgia landscape, Sawnee Mountain Preserve is a fantastic place to hike, bike, or simply explore the stunning natural surroundings. This preserve connects to the summit of the picturesque Blue Ridge Mountains. One of the most popular sites within the preserve is the Indian Seats, a natural rock formation at the peak of the trail, offering unparalleled views of the North Georgia Mountains. With over 11 miles of trails, ranging in difficulty, there is something for all skill levels at this preserve. With picnic areas and an interpretive center, detailing the area’s natural and cultural history, a trip to Sawnee Mountain Preserve is guaranteed to be fun in the great outdoors.
  2. Big Creek Greenway – When completed, this lovely linear park will be home to a 15-mile of trail in Forsyth County. This wonderfully maintained trail, comprised of concrete and boardwalk, winds its way through the woods along the Big Creek. 12 feet in width, there is plenty of room on the greenway for walkers, runners, bikers, and skaters alike. If you are looking for a fantastic place to get in your workout and get a little fresh air, look no further than Big Creek Greenway.
  3. Fowler Park – Home to many of the area’s recreational activities, from soccer and baseball, to tennis and basketball, you’re sure to stay busy at Fowler Park. This beautiful park hosts youth sports teams, and an array of classes and camps. With a 1.5-mile trail, dog park, batting cages, and skate park, there is truly something for everyone at Fowler Park.
  4. Young Deer Creek Park – If you’re looking to spend a day out on the water, be sure to check out Young Deer Creek Park. This cozy park offers lake access with boat ramp, swimming area, and great shore fishing. Whether you’re out on a boat, or splashing near the shore, this is a great place to access the water.
  5. Mary Alice Park – With a wide sandy beach, boat ramps and docks, picnic tables and a picnic pavilion, Mary Alice Park is definitely one of the best spots from which to enjoy the cool blue waters of Lake Lanier. Fire up the grill, watch your kids frolic in the sand, take a dip in the water, or take the bout out to go fishing – there’s plenty to do here.
